Exploring the Start-Up Journey: A Comprehensive Guide to Funding Stages

Thrilled to share insights on a topic close to every entrepreneur’s heart: the evolutionary journey of start-ups and their funding stages.

Let’s dive into this fascinating process and empower ourselves to navigate it confidently. 🚀

🌱 Pre-Seed: The Seedling Stage

Think of this as the germination phase.

Entrepreneurs use their own resources, or those of friends or family, to find a problem in the market and build a viable solution.

At this stage, funding raised is generally under €1M.

🌿 Seed: Planting the Foundation

Time to put down roots!

Angel investors and early-stage Venture Capitalists help start-ups go to market and start to grow.

Investors see potential and provide capital to develop products, enter the market, and prove their concept.

In the seed stage, funding is between €250,000 and €2M.

🌲 Series A: Business Model Fit

Here’s where the tree begins to take shape.

At Series A, start-ups develop evidence that their business model is viable and scalable, and Venture Capitalists are eager to help them.

Series A start-ups generally have financing between €3M and €12M.

🌳 Series B: Strengthening the Trunk

By Series B, the focus is to become ready for growth.

Series B start-ups are expanding, hiring, and professionalizing their operations.

Still largely funded by Venture Capital, financing at this stage is generally above €10M.

🌴 Series C+: The Canopy Grows

At this stage, start-ups are giant oaks in the forest.

They’ve proven their worth and are raising capital to expand globally, acquire competitors, or diversify their product lines. 🌐

Now often funded by Private Equity or Public Stock Sales, this stage is about scaling, and funding is usually €25M+.

Whether you’re a founder, an investor, or a start-up enthusiast, understanding these stages is key to demystifying the path ahead.
